About Clay at Hannah's

Clay at Hannah's is the realization of a childhood dream—a ceramic studio built on accessibility and belonging. The name is intentionally informal and personal, like you know Hannah yourself. This is a place you can call home. Come hang out, have a cup of tea, and explore your creativity with clay in a supportive community.

Who is Hannah?

Hannah Horner
Founder and Art Therapist

Hannah grew up in the northern suburbs of Chicago, a childhood defined by creating, building, and movement. She spent time exploring art through classes at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Evanston Art Center, while her curiosity and energy were also expressed through play, mind-body-focused sports, and sensory-based activities. In Boston, she pursued studies in fine arts, analog photography, and holistic psychology, driven by a hunger to understand human experience and universal patterns of meaning-making. While exploring various art modalities, she rediscovered her love for ceramics, completing studio work and an internship at the Harvard Ceramics Program in Cambridge, MA.

Returning to Chicago for graduate school in counseling and art therapy, Hannah continued her passion for wheel-throwing, embracing clay as a patient and insightful teacher. She combined this practice with West Coast Swing dancing and calisthenics, learning that the rigorous pursuit of becoming an ethical and socially just clinician also requires care for self.

Hannah and her partner Ben moved to San Diego purely for the sunshine, the ocean, and the mountains. She became part of the local pottery community through her best friend's studio, Milk Oolong Pottery in Liberty Station. The experience was a huge inspiration, deepening her love for the nurturing and imaginative environment a clay studio can offer—and motivating her to establish her own. Today, Hannah works part-time as a clinician while tending to the artist part of herself through the growth and care of her studio. One of her greatest wishes is to foster a supportive space where others, no matter where they are in life, can experience the encouragement and inspiration she was so fortunate to receive.

When she's not in the studio, Hannah can be found ultra running, practicing Muay Thai, or reading in the park with Ben and Atlas (the best dog in the world).

Studio Values

The mission is rooted in constant learning and growing—embracing curiosity and play as essential tools for discovery. Hannah believes in the power of self-expression through clay to further personal growth and development. At the heart of the practice is the belief that art is therapy, offering a transformative space for healing, reflection, and connection with oneself and others.
